COMPASS TEST DATES

The COMPASS or ACT test is required by Moberly Area Community College of all students seeking a degree or certificate, who have accumulated fourteen credit hours, or who plan to take an English or math course. COMPASS is an untimed, computerized test that consists of three areas of study: writing, reading, and mathmatics. The purpose of the COMPASS is to assist in your placement into English and math courses at MACC.The COMPASS test is given at all MACC caompus locations. (Dates and times vary, call the individual site for mor information) As the COMPASS testing progresses, you may find that some tests will take longer to finish than others. This is because you will be tested at several different levels of knowledge about the subject and the computer program adjusts to your responses. Once you have answered a certain number of questions on one of these levels, you will either be shiftd to a more advanced level of questioning or you will be prompred onto the next test depending on the number of correctly answered questions. There is no set number of questions for any test. There will be no advising available if a compass starts at 4:00 p.m. or later. Bring $4.00 for the COMPASS test fee. This fee must be paid the day of the test. You will be asked to show photo identification at the time of the test. You are allowed to retake the COMPASS.

ACT TEST DATES (Residual test)

The American College Test (ACT) is used for advisement purposes only and no students will be refused admission solely on the basis of an ACT score, except when used in the admission process to the Medical Lab Tech and Nursing programs. The ACT is given at the Mexico (ATC) and Moberly Campuses. (Please call the Moberly campus for dates and times.) The ACT testing time is approximately four hours. Prior registration with student services is requested. ACT scores are available approximately four weeks after testing. The day of the test, please bring $29.50, two #2 pencils, and a photo ID. CALCULATORS ARE ALLOWED FOR THE MATH SECTION OF THE ACT TEST. Please be advised that you are only allowed to take the ACT test every 60 days. MACC is an approved residual test site and may administer the ACT to Students for the purpose of satisfying the MACC admission requirement. These scores are not designed to be transferable to other institutions.

The Aptitude for Practical Nursing Examination (APNE) is used to assist in making the most accurate and fair decision possible regarding the admission of an applicant into the Practical Nursing Program. The APNE consists of a series of five parts: Academic Aptitude, Spelling, Information in the Natural Sciences, Judgment and Comprehension in Practical Nursing Situations, and Vocational Adjustment Index.

The Practical Nursing Program requires a minimum score at the 50th percentile or better on the first three tests. The Judgment and Comprehension in PN Situations and Vocational Adjustment Index will not be used for admission purposes. APNE testing time is aproximately three hours. There is a $29.50 fee for the APNE. Prior registration with student services is requested. Please be advised that you are only allowed to take the APNE test every 30 days. First go to Resources for Test Taking, then to Sample Questions for the PSB Examinations-Aptitude for Practical Nursing Examination. Study all five parts of the test even though your 50% will only be calculated from the first three parts. Other ways to study for the test would be to review high school science textbooks, a GED study guide, 8th grade arithmetic textbooks and an SAT study guide.
